Aging can occur in all humans during life and can result in several
changes including physical, mental, social, spiritual, intellectual decline,
fulfillment of physical activity needs, and decreased cognitive function.
Decreased cognitive function can be characterized by changes in perception,
communication barriers, memory impairment, decreased focus and barriers
to physical activity. This study aims to determine whether there is a
relationship between physical activity and cognitive function in the elderly
in Cigugur Kidul Village, Pusakajaya District, Subang Regency.
This study is a quantitative study using a correlational analytic design with
a cross sectional approach. The sample in the study amounted to 87
respondents. Data collection used instruments in the form of Activity Scale
For The Elderly (PASE) and Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE)
questionnaires. The data analysis used was univariate analysis in the form of frequency
distribution and bivariate analysis in the form of normality test and chisquare test.
The results showed that half of the respondents with less physical
activity experienced impaired cognitive function, a total of 43 respondents
(49.4%) and some of the respondents with good physical activity
experienced no cognitive function impairment as many as 29 people
(33.3%). The results of the Chi-Square test show that p-value = 0.000 where
p-value is ? 0.05, which means Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted which
indicates a significant relationship between physical activity and cognitive
function of the elderly in Cigugur Kidul Village, Pusakajaya Subang District.
Lack of physical activity carried out by the elderly can cause a decrease in cognitive function
