Railway level crossings are among the critical accident-prone points in Indonesia. Out of 1,142 accidents at level crossings between 2019 and 2022, 1,004 occurred at unguarded crossings. This study aims to develop a prototype for an Arduino-based automated gate system to enhance safety, efficiency, and effectiveness at railway crossings. The system utilizes ultrasonic sensors to detect approaching trains, servo motors for gate operation, buzzers as alarms, and an I2C LCD to display real-time information. Testing results demonstrate that the system can operate automatically with fast and accurate responses. This technology has the potential to reduce dependency on manual operators and decrease the number of accidents at unguarded crossings.
